About Jordan Erickson

Jordan Erickson is a technical writer with How-To Geek and has worked in the I.T. industry since 1997. He's a sysadmin, entrepreneur and open-source advocate.

Jordan fell in love with technology at age 5 with the Commodore 64. He graduated to a Commodore 128 at 12, and then a Packard Bell 286 PC with Hercules amber monochrome graphics (Oh, those were sweet).

In his professional career, Jordan has worked for computer repair shops, internet and managed service providers, financial institutions, global data satellite providers and municipal governments. He ran his own technical consulting firm from 2002-2022, working for hundreds of diverse businesses to build, support and maintain their networks.

Jordan headed a volunteer local music promotion project called SoCoRock from 2011-2013 and started open source project Cool Mic in 2014.

Jordan founded a Social Purpose Corporation (SPC) called SubJam, the first local-music-scene-focused livestreaming platform in the world, in 2021. Along with running the business, Jordan handles all things DevOps. SubJam is currently working to complete their MVP mobile app.

Jordan's lifelong passion of writing brought him to How-To Geek in 2023. With Linux as his vertical, he's excited to share his viewpoints and technical knowledge of F/OSS with others.

In the after-hours you can catch Jordan hacking on his servers, playing bass guitar & listening to music, practicing Tai Chi, playing video games with his sons, working on vintage electronics, helping out with his wife's scented candle company Rustic Star Candle, making homemade pizza and outdoors either hiking or on his motorcycle.
